I decided to give my oven a break. I think it deserves a good rest from all the baking. But my hands are still itching to bake something. So what to do? The magic word: Steaming.
The recipe for these little steamed cake are from LeeLee, who posted it in KC. It uses two forms of coconut, coconut milk and fresh grated coconut. Coconut has always been advocated as a bad bad food, because of its high saturated fat(think clogged arteries) content. But as I heard recently, it seems like they(the experts) are saying that coconut is not so bad after all. Sometimes all these information are a tad confusing, no?
Anyway, back to my cakes. These cakes are relatively easy to prepare, not to mention very tasty. The grated coconut is slightly saltish, which contrasted very effectively with the sweet cake base. Here's a look at the 'dainty' cakes.
I'll be leaving tonight to my parents-in-law's place in Malaysia for the weekend and will be back on Sunday. Have a good weekend and in the meantime, hope my archives will be sufficient to keep you busy :)

hi angie, by the time u see this comment, i think you shd b bk oredi. hope u enjoyed yr trip thoroughly. bought anything nice? =)
your cakes must be one of the best looking ones i seen, not trying to praise u or anything. so far i seen two ppl made this, and yours is the best looking so far. the shape really holds well, unlike the others ive seen that are too flaky. moreover, the color looks good! yes, and i've seen that news report that coconut isnt so bad afterall. whats more funny is the soya sauce report that came right after. it says dark soy sauce has got dunno 150% more vitamin c to protect cell damage, much more than red wine...can u believe it? LOL. for me i nvr believe such stuffs. afterall, to err is human. who knows one day they may come up with another news report that smoking is actually beneficial for health!
btw angie, why do u wanna moderate yr comments? do u hv ppl coming to yr blog & say undesirable things oso? if u intend to moderate the comments, i would suggest getting a haloscan comment box rather than the blogspot one. coz haloscan allows u to edit any part of ppl's msgs, as well as block IP addresses. and u can also choose the template u want. well, i'm juz suggesting, coz i'm using the haloscan one & i find it not bad!
Yum! Indeed they look cute!
I read so much good review about this steamed cake. Yours look so cute and pretty. Too bad I don't have those plastic bowls!
:(
Ching, I saw the moulds in PH. I am worried abt steaming with plastic moulds. Me quite kiasi type. *lol*
Angie, grace here!
Hope u enjoyed urself in Malaysia! U're missed by me! =)
Evan, didn't buy anything much, as I go to Ipoh once or twice a year, nothing really special to buy back.
Thanks for your encouragement about my cakes :)
So far I haven't had any nasty comments *touch wood*. But I've seen some on other food bloggers' posts. That's why I have not done so, and thanks for the info regarding haloscan, will keep that in mind.
Rene, Ching, thanks for your kind words.
Eve, I think since these moulds are made for steaming, should be okay? Although i know some plasticware for microwave are also not safe.
Grace, thanks. You're so sweet :)
Wow... your mini steam pandan cake look so neat and yummy.... esp the colour.....
Hi Lena_Mummy, thanks for your kind words. Btw, I love your blog, especially all the soup recipes :)
Thanks Angie.... by the way, i also loves all your special bakes.... :)
oh my sweet sweet Angie you're back!!!
Your cakes/pastries color always turns out great! Oh I just love the bite-size sweet! I may be a bit busy in these few days, will try to get back to you as soon as I can...
Gattina, no worries, do the impt stuff first :). Btw, I deleted the second post from you, same as the first one.
Angie,
The news about how good of coconut also spread to here. I guess ppl understand better about saturated fat (which has two types, one is good the other is bad... well, your dept! hehee...).
I'm going to buy this new cake mould, you cake's tempting me!
Gattina, I guess all fats are bad if taken in excess, even those omega-3 and omega-6 ones. Like you said before “no food makes one fat, but gluttony does”.
You can get these moulds in NJ? Cool. I bought these molds from Gina, thinking other uses for them, like Grace’s sago pudding ;p
