Add Some Colors to Your Life

Okay, I admit it. I have been thinking about lychees since reading Gattina's absolutely delicious post on Baked Lychee Risotto Pudding. In Singapore, it's easy to get canned lychees, which are available in any supermarket. When the season comes, we can have fresh ones too!

'Stomping' into my neighbourhood supermarket, I was determined to get a can of lychees. I could just open and eat straight from the can (Gattina, see what you've done? :p). But wait, I have a pomengranate sitting in the fridge too. Hmm.... how about a simple fruit salad?

Drain the lychees, throw in some Murcot segments, sprinkle on some red rubies(pomengranate), add a dash of lychee syrup and viola! A refreshingly fruity dessert:

Seeing such a colorful combination really does whet one's appetite. I especially love the red pomengranate dotted all over the bowl.

When I first saw the pictures, I thought the white balls were balls of fresh mozzarella and was thinking to myself, "So where are these lychees that you speak of?". I just woke up you see and was still rather drowsy but upon closer inspection, I was like, "Oh..." haha. Keep up the good stuff!

my dearest of dearest buddy!!! It_is_so_beautiful!!!!! And I'm glad you shown the canned lychee in Sg, it definitely has much better quality than what of I've just got. I'll keep trying different brands.
When lychee in season, yell to me, I may fly over and have one more lychee pot-luck with you =)
About pomengrnate, I tasted once or twice, the seeds kinda bother me, or any other better way to eat this fruit? It's a true beauty though, so as your photography!
(ps... I want to make cny goodies "kwok-jai"... cantonese sound... deep-fried dough wrapped in crushed peanut, sugar and (maybe) coconut inside. Angie, do you have any recommended recipe :D)

Hello, this looks delicious. I am like Gattina too, don't really know how to appreciate the pomengnate due to the seeds. Great piece of art.

Anh, thanks!

Brilynn, yes, these colors make me happy too :)

Helene, thanks for your visit!

D, thanks. Such good life, just woke up at 9plus? *wink*

Gattina buddy, you sure? I'll yell very loudly when fresh lychees are available, heee...

Actually I just devour the seeds, everything all in.

My mum used to make superb 'kok-jai', unfortunately she didn't leave a recipe behind. I could only find one:

I have one recipe in my Chinese Dim Sum book. I will translate it ASAP for you. Look out for my email.

Edith, long time no 'see'. Hope you're settling down in your new home :)

Anne, thanks so much for your kind words :)

Angie, gotcha e-mail, thanks! And I saw the link. No wonder my neigbors (my mom doesn't have much time in cny goodies) were able to tuck in the lose filling so neat, I guess the sesame paste/peanut butter does the trick? Anyway, will look carefully again! Thanks millions buddy!

Gattina, you're most welcomed my buddy :D. Have fun trying!

I think longan berries are still sort of in season. I see some staljs selling them, supposedly the "second" season from Thailand.
